Frequently Asked Questions
The questions patients ask Dr. Shahid Islam Dental Clinic most often, answered plainly: where we are, when we are open, how booking works, what treatments involve and how costs are decided. If your question is not here, call us on +92 344 212 3913 and ask.
Where is the clinic located?
The clinic is at Office #102, Plot #12-C, 35th Commercial Street, Tauheed Commercial Area, DHA Phase 5, Karachi, Pakistan. It is close to Clifton, and patients visit from across Karachi. A map and directions are on our contact page, and our areas we serve page explains how patients from different parts of the city plan their visits.
What are the clinic hours?
The clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and on Saturday from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. It is closed on Friday and Sunday. The evening hours are deliberate: most patients can attend after work or school without taking leave.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or WhatsApp +92 344 212 3913, or email appointments@drshahidislam.com. Booking ahead is recommended so your appointment is reserved in the session. Mention severe pain or swelling when you book, as urgent problems are prioritised. You can also book through the clinic's own contact page.
What should I do if I have severe tooth pain or swelling?
Phone the clinic as soon as you can and describe the problem. Severe toothache, facial swelling, a broken tooth or bleeding that does not stop should not wait for a routine appointment; urgent cases are fitted into the session wherever possible. The clinic's emergency dentist page explains how urgent care is handled.
How much does a root canal cost?
The cost depends on the tooth: a front tooth usually has one canal, while a back molar can have three or four, and some teeth also need a protective crown afterwards. The clinic examines the tooth, takes an X-ray and gives you an exact quote before treatment begins. For background on how prices are built up, read the clinic's root canal cost guide and our own root canal treatment page.
Does root canal treatment hurt?
No, it should not. The tooth is fully numbed with local anaesthesia, and most patients say the appointment was easier than the toothache that brought them in. Some tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal and is managed with ordinary painkillers. Root canal treatment at this clinic is carried out by Dr Shahid Islam, an endodontist who specialises in it.
Do you have a female dentist?
Yes. Dr Vinessa Gill is the clinic's female dentist and treats patients across the full range of general and cosmetic dentistry. Mention your preference when you book and your appointment will be arranged with her. The clinic's page about its female dentist in Karachi answers the questions patients usually ask about this.
How long does dental implant treatment take?
From placing the implant to fitting the final crown is commonly a few months, because the jawbone needs time to bond firmly with the implant, and that stage cannot be rushed safely. Your assessment gives you your own timeline, including how many visits are involved and what happens at each one. Our dental implants page walks through the stages.
Braces or clear aligners: which is better for me?
Braces handle the full range of tooth movements, including complex cases, and work around the clock without depending on your discipline. Clear aligners are discreet and removable and suit mild to moderate cases, but only work if worn most of the day, every day. An orthodontic assessment shows which options can achieve your result; our braces and aligners page compares them in detail.
Will I know the cost before treatment starts?
Yes. Every treatment begins with an examination, a clear explanation of the findings and options, and a quote for the recommended plan. Treatment starts only when you are ready. If a plan has to change mid-treatment, for example because an X-ray shows something unexpected, the change and its cost effect are explained before proceeding, not after.
